Jessica Myers-Adams, LCSW
Founder of Emergent Relationship Center

I specialize in couples therapy and relationship dynamics. I am a Gestalt trained therapist and use the Bader-Pearson Developmental Model of couples counseling.

The Developmental Model for Couples integrates Attachment Theory, Differentiation Theory, and Neuroscience into a specific modality designed to improve diagnosis and treatment for couples.

If someone were to tell you that taking a freezing cold shower would benefit you, what would your reaction be?

Very likely, it would be “No thanks, my insides quiver just thinking about it!”

But it’s these intense and unexpected situations that I enthusiastically jump right into.

If someone were to tell you that taking a freezing cold shower would benefit you, what would your reaction be?

Because I’ve been through hell and back, I don’t flinch when couples come to me with the crisis of an affair, eruptive fighting, or the paralysis of isolation inside their relationship.

After the honeymoon period was over, my partner and I went through years of scrapping, so believe me when I say “I know what you’re going through.”

There’s a Japanese practice of using liquid gold to fill in the cracks of broken pottery. Kintsugi, as it’s called, teaches that broken objects are not something to hide but to display with pride.

Many therapists might be ashamed to admit their troubled years, but I’m proud to say that facing years of conflict in my relationship has given me a 360° perspective on what it’s like to screw up, own up to it… and then stick with it until the relationship is strong and vibrant.

This is why I’m so excited to work with couples. I believe that your life and your relationship, can become even more refined thanks to its scars.

You’ll know we’re a good fit to work together if you…

  • Feel like you’re losing your mind in your relationship
  • Have trouble sitting with your feelings of hopelessness
  • Have a fear of abandonment
  • Are tired of the same old stuff, and desperate for a change
  • Struggle with shame and insecurity
  • Are highly motivated to start living your life in a different way

We’ll work with your inner child, your attachment style, and the current moments of “is-ness” to bring you: to a place of confidence, to help you and your partner reconnect, to soothe the recurring fights, and to recognize the good in one another again.

When I was struggling, I wish someone had said to me, “Hey, I can help you.” But no one ever did.

And now it is my greatest honor to offer myself as a beacon of hope, no matter how much it feels like you’re “in the pit.”

Couples Therapist

With 7+ years of experience providing family-based counseling and substance abuse counseling to both adults and adolescents, as well as several years working as a behavioral health and wellness coach, I have extensive expertise as an advocate, counselor, and coach.

I am drawn to couples counseling because I truly enjoy working to help each partner acquire great communication skills needed to maintain their connections and create a peaceful and positive relationship experience.

Relationships are complex. I have no shame in saying that I’ve made many errors and had to re-learn a new way of thinking, acting, and communicating in my own relationship. I have learned so much to help myself as I’ve been learning to help others. It’s a privilege to be able to share lessons of hope and walk alongside my clients, until they have the breakthrough that they so desperately desire. My greatest joy is to see couples step out from what seems like impossible darkness into a brighter, lighter future – united, stronger, wiser, and hopeful!

I have a Master of Arts degree in Human Services Counseling from Regent University and a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. Additionally, I am in the process of obtaining a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) designation and have earned accreditation in the Bader-Pearson Developmental Model of couples counseling.

Couples Therapist

As a couple’s and family therapist, I look forward to supporting you in a safe atmosphere where each individual is heard. My goal is to work with couples to explore the relationship, identifying patterns that are healthy and patterns that are no longer serving the relationship. It can be difficult to maintain a healthy dynamic within a relationship; my goal is to work with couples on reconnecting, building communication skills, and having an empathic understanding for one another.

Relationships can be hard, frustrating, and confusing. Trying to juggle the emotions, wants, and needs of yourself and your partner is no small task. My hope is that as a team, the couple will be able to face challenges head on. We will collaborate on creating a space where each individual not only works on areas of growth but is also celebrated for who they are.

I have earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology with a concentration in couples and family therapy. I am currently pursing a License in Marriage and Family therapy and am a trainee in the Bader-Pearson Developmental Model of Couples Counseling.
